Our Boars
Semen processed by PSA is sourced from PIC Australia boars. Single sourcing boars allows for consistency of progeny and allows Pork Storks to maintain one of the strictest bio-security systems in the world.
PIC is the leading supplier of advanced genetics to the Australian pig industry through its genetic products and marker gene technology. PIC supplies genetic solutions to suit all markets, not only for the production of efficient progeny but also to supply products suitable for the processing, fresh meat and export markets. All Terminal Sire Lines (TSL) offer high performance in the traits of daily gain, P2 back fat, loin depth, lean percentage and feed conversion.
EBV's on all PIC animals are recorded, thus allowing PIC to select the best boars. These EBV’s are constantly revised and updated by PIC geneticists and each sire is referred against sires in the Global Database, PICtraq. Being nationally and internationally linked ensures the PIC breeding program to be truly competitive and genetically sound.
In addition to minimising the potential risks of introducing live animals onto a farm, AI offers both genetic and economic benefits to producers. Using AI enables producers to have access to boar lines that are superior to those available in Australia by natural service. This highest quality semen enables producers to gain genetic merit faster than they would naturally.
PICBOAR range has been carefully selected not only for the production of efficient progeny but also to supply products suitable for the processing, fresh and export markets. PICBOARs have outstanding vigour and robustness in a variety of conditions.
PSA and PIC are subject to comprehensive Quality Assurance procedures including isolation, acclimation and blood testing of incoming boars. Both PSA and PIC are certified by the Australian Pork Industry Quality (APIQ) program. This is an on-farm quality assurance program that allows producers to identify and manage risks in their piggeries. APIQ certification means that you meet high standards for food safety, animal welfare, biosecurity and traceability, and staff training.
