December 2010/January 2011 Queensland floods caused devastation and loss of lives. Towns were cut off, businesses and industries shut down. To aid in avoiding the complete shutdown of the Queensland pig industry Pork Storks took extremes measures to continue semen deliveries to its customers.
The Queensland fleet of vehicles initially crossed flooded roads and bridges in an effort to get to isolated farms. Management had to stop this for safety issues. To keep the semen deliveries continuing PSA hired helicopters and light planes to reach isolated properties and townships. Along the way PSA also assisted by delivering stranded staff to isolated piggeries and emergency veterinary supplies.
When severe and widespread flooding again hit Queensland in 2012 / 2013 PSA again hired helicopters and light planes to enable semen deliveries to continue. Without these semen deliveries our customers would have had large production issues as well as the flood costs to contend with.
